The new season began on August 3rd with 11 matches. The last match was played on Sunday August 4th. All 24 clubs started their season with the riches of Premier League football the goal.
Wigan Athletic FC opened the season with a big road win at Oakwell Stadium in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Wigan defeated Barnsley FC 4-0 behind goals from Ben Watson, Grant Holt, Leon Barnett and Shaun Maloney of Scotland. Dale Jennings of Barnsley was sent off in 65th minute with a direct Red card foul.
Watford FC also got a big road win going into St. Andrew's Stadium in Birmingham and defeating Birmingham City FC 1-0. Troy Deeney scored in the 11th minute and that was enough for the road club to win the match. A total of six Yellow cards were given out during this match.
Blackpool FC kept the big road wins going with their 3-1 win over Doncaster Rovers FC in Keepmoat Stadium(Doncaster, South Yorkshire). Steve Davis scored in the 16th minute to give Blackpool and early lead. Robert Jones leveled the match in 60th minute for Doncaster. Scotland's Gary Mackenzie scored in 86th minute to put Blackpool back ahead. Thomas Ince would score five minutes into stoppage time to finish the scoring.
Let's keep the road wins going as Leicester City FC won 2-1 at Riverside Stadium against Middlesbrough FC. The home club started with a gift as Sean St. Ledger of Ireland scored an own goal in 34th minute to give them a 1-0 lead. Danny Drinkwater of Leicester scored in the 60th minute to level score. That was followed by a goal from Jamie Vardy in the 67th minute to give the road club the lead that they wouldn't give up.
Yeovil Town FC joined the road dominated matchday one winners with their 1-0 win against Millwall FC at The Den in London. Edward Upson scored in the 88th minute to give Yeovil Town the win.

AFC Bournemouth got two goals from Lewis Grabban in the 26th and 67th minutes to defeat Charlton Athletic FC in front of 10,000 fans at Seward Stadium. Bradley Pritchard of Zimbabwe was given a direct Red Card in 83rd minute for Charlton Athletic. Yann Kermorgant of France scored a beautiful goal in 49th minute but it wasn't enough as AFC won 2-1.
Leeds United FC had over 33,000 fans pack Elland Road to see them play Brighton & Hove Albion FC. Jose Leonardo Ulloa of Argentina scored in the 13th minute to give road club an early 1-0 lead. Scotland's Ross McCormack leveled the match in 19th minute with his goal. As things looked like their would be a draw Luke Murphy scored in 90th minute to give Leeds the win.
Nottingham Forest FC got a goal from Henri Lansbury in 52nd minute in front of 25,000 screaming fans in The City Ground over Huddersfield Town FC to win 1-0.
Loftus Road Stadium in London saw Queens Park Rangers FC defeat Sheffield Wednesday FC 2-1 behind goals from Chinedum 'Nedum' Onuoha of Nigeria in 40th minute and Andy Johnson in 42nd minute. Atdhe Nuhiu of Austira had put Sheffield ahead with his goal in 19th minute.
Reading FC defeated Ipswich Town FC 2-1 at Madejski Stadium. Jay Tabb of Ireland scored in 16th minute giving Ipswich a 1-0 lead. Adam Le Fondre scored one minute into stoppage time of first half to level the match before the whistle. Danny Sean Guthrie scored in 75th minute to give Reading the lead and win.
Play to a Draw
The first matched played this season saw Burnley FC and Bolton Wanderes FC play to a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor in Burnley. David Wheater of Bolton scored an own goal in 26th minute giving Burnley a 1-0 lead. Darren Pratley scored in 38th minute to level the match.
The last match was played on Sunday and it saw Derby County FC and Blackburn Rovers also play to a 1-1 draw. Johnny Russell of Scotland scored on a penalty in the 42nd minute to give Derby the lead. Ireland's Leon Best scored in 88th minute to level match for Blackburn.
